The WEC 2006 series began far to the north in Sweden and then moved almost as far south
as possible to Portugal and southern Spain. After a round in Italy it went across the Atlantic to the USA and Canada before returning

to Slovakia in Eastern Europe and the final round in France. And despite the competition from the best riders in North America, there was no change overall for the rights to claim the titles of best off-road riders in the world.
David Knight from the Isle of Man repeated his 2005 victory in the big-bike category while Finland's Samuli Aro and Ivan Cervantes from Spain also held on to the Championships that they won last year in the middleweight and lightweight classes. For the flying Finn this meant three Championships in succession and four in all. He had previously won the 400cc category in 2002 and the big-capacity class in 2004
Each of the three 2006 title-winners were KTM-mounted but there was plenty of opposition for the Austrian company from Yamaha, Honda and Husqvarna, whose team riders all launched serious Championship attacks. All in all, it was a great year of international action amidst spectacular back-country scenery and all eight rounds are covered here in detail,
class by class.
