The Path Of Duty

May 1905 - Elizabeth, the Bellamy's daughter, arrives home from boarding school in Dresden, Germany and is invited to a ball where she is to be presented to The King and Queen. She creates a scandal by running away.

A Suitable Marriage

December 1905 - Elizabeth gains a new lover in a handsome young

Baron. But he turns out to be a spy and has been using Elizabeth as a way to gain information about the British Government. Alfred, the Bellamys' young footman falls in love with the Baron and he falls for Alfred.

A Cry For Help

October 1906 - Richard discovers the new under-house maid, Mary, crying in the library and learns that she is expecting a baby after being raped by a friend of the Bellamys. Richard offers to help her which results in a scandal.

Magic Casements

Summer 1906 - James's young friend, Captain Charles Hammond, escorts Lady Marjorie to the opera. She soon falls in love with the handsome Captain and when he does with her, an affair begins.


I Dies From Love

April 1907 - Emily, the scullery maid, becomes friendly with a footman from a nearby house. But when William's employer forbids him to see her again Emily is heart broken.

Why Is Her Door Locked?

November 1907 - Mrs. Bridges has a guilt induced breakdown (over Emily's suicide) and steals a baby from the front of a grocers.

The Bellamys find out and not wanting to lose their faithful cook they personally return the baby and offer the parents of the infant 'compensation'

A Voice From The Past

August 1908 - James and Elizabeth begin helping run a soup kitchen in the East End of London. While working there they discover Sarah, the former under-house maid. Feeling sorry for her they give her a job in Eaton Place again as the new scullery maid.


Out Of The Everywhere

Elizabeth has given birth to a baby daughter, Lucy, and after her christenina. Nanny Webster arrives from Southwold.

Her arrival quickly causes upset in the household.

An Object Of Value

Lady Marjorie's father, the Earl of Southwold, has died and after his fineral his widow arrives to spend a few days at Eaton Place. However, soon after her arrival a valuable piece of jewellery goes missing

A Special Mischief

While her parents and brother are away, Elizabeth takes part in the suffragette movement. And Rose, while trying to stop Elizabeth, gets herself sent to prison.


The Swedish Tiger

October 1908 - James's friend, Captain Ryttsen, visits from Sweden. Sarah (who is now working as under house maid again) falls for him. He casts her under a spell, and when several valuable objects start to disappear she is suspected. In the end Sarah leaves

Eaton Place again.

The Key Of The Door

November 1908 - Elizabeth meets a woman with liberal views and at her advice throws a party at 165 Eaton Place. Her parents return home in the middle of it and Elizabeth runs away.

For Love Of Love

November 1909 - Rose finds Elizabeth living with her friend, Henrietta Withchmore and her new lover Lawrence Kirbridge.

The Bellamys invite them to dinner and are shocked to learn their plans to "live in sin". Lawrence and Elizabeth get married in the local church.


Guest Of Honour

There is excitement at Eaton Place as The King, accompanied by Mrs Keppel, comes to dinner. However, in the middle of the evening Sarah arrives and goes into labour with James' child.

The Property Of A Lady

An Irishman called Dooley arrives claiming to have love letters written by Lady Marjorie to Captain Hammond, who has been killed in action, and he is demanding a high price for them, and Thomas and Sarah are left to sort the situation out.

Your Obedient Servant

Richard's brother, Arthur, comes to stay at Eaton Place at the same time as Hudson's brother, a successful bridge builder, and his family are visiting London. While Hudson tries to impress his brother, Arthur Bellamy does his best to discover what

Hudson's 'secret' is.


On Trial

November 1903 - A strange Cockney girl arrives at Eaton Place claiming to be French and of noble descent. She is hired as under-house maid and renamed Sarah by Lady Marjorie Bellamy.

The Mistress And The Maids

June 1904 - Lady Marjorie sits in for a painting by Guthrie Scone, a highly skilled painter. Sarah goes to his studio to deliver some dresses and a romance starts.

Board Wages

August 1904 - While the Bellamys and the senior servants are away, the junior servants have a party where they dress up as the Bellamys and mock a society gathering. Then James Bellamy returns home unexpectedly...


The New Man

After returning from their honeymoon in Vienna, Elizabeth and Lawrence set up home in Greenwich, with Rose from Eaton Place.

A young Welshman, Thomas Watkins, is employed as Lawrence's manservant.

Erotonis

A Pair Of Exiles

The affair between James, who is in mounting debt and in trouble with his regiment, and Sarah, the housemaid turned actress, comes to a head when she discovers she is pregnant. Sir Geoffrey Dillon is brought in to sort out the problem.

Married Love

Elizabeth and Lawrence's marriage continues to deteriorate with Lawrence refusing to consummate it, and Lawrence confides in his publisher, Sir Edwin Partridge, who agrees to satisfy Elizabeth's needs.

Whom God Hath Joined

It's Christmas 1908, and while Elizabeth is at Eaton Place with her parents, Lawrence is at his aunt's. It is not long before the truth about their marriage, and her pregnancy, comes out and again Sir Geoffrey Dillon is brought in to find a solution.
