The 2011 Santos Tour Down Under was at its electrifying best, celebrating its 13th year and welcoming one a the finest fields of cyclists ever assembled in the event's history
The world's fastest sprinters and a plethora of up and coming Australian riders added to the excitement of the Tour, which has grown to be the biggest tourism event in South Australia and the first stop on the world cycling calendar.
Defending champion Andre Greipel was back with a new team, ready to take on his former teammate, the "Manx Missile," Mark Cavendish.
The 2011 Santos Tour Down Under was also the chance for Australian superstars, including Matthew Goss, Robbie McEwen and rising talent, such as eventual winner Cameron Meyer, to shine.
Much to the delight of cycling fans, after making his return to the sport at the Santos Tour Down Under in 2009, seven-time
Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong chose the 2011 Tour as his farewell race on international soil.
A record crowd of spectators soaked up the atmosphere of the Tour, lining the course as the peloton sped past a backdrop of some of Australia's most stunning beaches, towns, rolling hills and picturesque vineyards, through the Barossa, Adelaide Hills, Murraylands and Fleurieu Peninsula.
The stage was then set for an electrifying finale through the packed streets of Adelaide.

Our team aim to pack, check and dispatch orders within 24 hours of receiving your order Monday to Friday. Where an order is placed after 2pm AEST on Friday it may not be dispatched until Monday. During the Christmas holiday season, orders may take more than 24 hours before dispatch.
Overseas deliveries leave our warehouse every Wednesday.
We have a 30-day return policy, which means you have 30 days after receiving your item to request a return.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unworn or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.
To start a return, you can contact us at info@retrounit.com.au. If your return is accepted, we’ll send you a return shipping label, as well as instructions on how and where to send your package. Items sent back to us without first requesting a return will not be accepted.
