The Great Race The 1991 Tooheys 1000, Mount Panorama, Bathurst the ultimate test. This 2 hour videocassette captures all the race highlights from the Channel 7 telecast. . Flawless driving, a perfectly prepared car and superb teamwork gave pre-race favourite Jim Richards and Mark Skalfe and their Nissan GT R an historic, record-breaking (6 hours 19 mins 14.8 sec) win the Tooheys 1000 km classic at Bathurst. The Nissan duo also collected the fastest lap time -2.16.6 They swept all before them in achieving the first victory by a Japanese car in the Mount Panorama enduro, to take the chequered flag nearly two laps ahead of last year's winners Win Percy and Allan Grice, driving a Holden Racing Team Commodore V8. The Nissan victory was only the second time the gruelling, 29 year old race has been won by a make other than Holden or a Ford.

This, the 30th Anniversary of the "Great Race" at Mt. Panorama, finished prematurely In extraordinary circumstances. With nature showing its strength and taking over from the might of the V8's and Turbos, the race concluded on the 144th lap with the leading car yielding to the elements with a plle-up on Conrod Straight. The 30th Anniversary saw drivers facing some of most testing conditions ever experienced in the history of the race, from a dry start to rain, hall ory of the rat and fog. The expected dominance of the V8 Commodores and Falcon this year falled with the handicapped Nissan Turbo coming home in front again, but for the last time. 1.
