Therapeutic Guidelines Neurology Version 2 2002.
This version of Therapeutic Guidelines: Neurology reflects the progress and development of that specialty. These Guidelines have been prepared and updated by an enthusiastic group of specialists and experts in each area. The result is a contemporary publication with useful clinical information to assist practising clinicians.
There have been substantial revisions from the previous edition and new sections on sleep disorders, delirium, dementia and pain (especially neuropathic pain) added. Rapid progress in the evaluation and therapy of multiple sclerosis is reflected in the updated text on the treatment of that disorder. Developments in the management of stroke are included in the revision of that chapter. A particular enhancement in this version of Therapeutic Guidelines: Neurology is the new appendix on drug interactions.
Clinical decision-making is easily bedevilled by the possibility of drug interactions, especially with the multiple agents needed by some patients with these and other disorders. The content of Therapeutic Guidelines:
Neurology has also been harmonised with other guideline publications to help provide consistency of information with overlapping clinical areas.
Therapeutic Guidelines: Neurology has been written for the general clinician. As such it should be useful for medical students, hospital residents and interns, specialists in other clinical areas, nurses and other health professionals.
As Chairman, I must express my personal thanks to the Writing Group members for their patience and many hours of critical reading and writing in the preparation of each chapter. Their individual work was subjected to vigorous Writing Group discussions with critical review. This work, together with the care of the editoral staff of Therapeutic Guidelines Limited and the evaluations by our review panel has resulted in what I trust will be well used and valued Guidelines.
