Salem's Lot could be any one of the quaint,
peaceful villages dotting the New England
countryside. However, into this sleepy little
hamlet comes a stranger who unleashes an
evil so devastating that it threatens to
destroy the entire town and everyone in it.
From director Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Poltergeist), and master novelist
Stephen King, comes Salem's Lot: The Movie, a grim and frightening shocker about a devilish
fiend with a violent, unrelenting appetite.
David Soul (Starsky and Hutch/ plays Ben Mears, a young novelist returning home to Salem's Lot
after many years to write a book about the eerie old Marsten House which overlooks the town. It
seems that the once-stately homestead has recently acquired a new occupant, the aloof, mysterious
Richard K. Straker (James Mason). Supposedly an antique dealer, Straker is awaiting the arrival
of his enigmatic business partner Mr Barlow.
Strange and unaccountable incidents start to occur in
Salem's Lot. A young boy vanishes and his older
brother dies of unknown causes. Mears is convinced
that the source of the trouble is the evil Marsten House
itself. With the help of his old schoolmaster and a
courageous teenager he attempts to unravel the deadly
plague that is aiming the lives and souls of the
townspeople of Salem's Lot.
