The Sony PlayStation Link Cable, model SCPH-1040, was an accessory designed for the original PlayStation (PS1) console. This specialized cable allowed two PlayStation consoles to connect directly to each other for multiplayer gaming. The primary use of the link cable was for head-to-head gaming, where players could compete or cooperate in a game while using separate consoles and screens. This setup provided a unique gaming experience, especially for racing and fighting games, where screen sharing could give one player an advantage over the other.

The SCPH-1040 connected to the serial port on the back of the PS1 console. Games that supported this feature included specific code to utilize the cable for multiplayer functions.
