Kowloon Youma Gakuen Ki is an adventure/ first-person simulation RPG hybrid.

Despite the title, it will take place in Shinjuku, Tokyo's Kamiyoshi high school in the year 2004. The protagonist is an exchange student, who doubles as a treasure hunter. After he hears of an ancient treasure resting well hidden in the deepest areas of a ruin buried underneath the school building, there is nothing that can hold the young man back. He eventually discovers the entrance to the underground labyrinth on a graveyard located in one corner of the school's campus and the adventure begins. Other characters include the protagonist's classmate Koutarou Minakami, who loves to smoke cigarettes with lavender flavor and Asuka Yachiho. Next is Teito Amon, who is constantly observing our hero. Last but not least, there is Kasuka Shiraki. She knows the school's secrets and often gives the protagonist hints.

Kowloon Youma Gakuenki: The year is 2004, and you play the role of an exchange student who arrives at the Kamiyoshi School in Shinjuku District in Tokyo. In fact, although you came there to study, you are more interested in another activity - treasure hunting! That is precisely what you do when you have time - descend into ancient ruins and unravel their mysteries. But it seems you came to the right place. The place on which the school building stands is surrounded by legends, and soon you find a secret passage that leads to ruins... but of course, you'll need the co-operation of your schoolmates to have success!

Kowloon Yoma Gakuen Ki (which can be translated as Chronicles of Kowloon Demon School) is a hybrid game that has elements of various genres - most notably RPG, Japanese and Western-style adventure. The entire game is viewed from first-person perspective. Moving through 3D dungeons, you can examine and manipulate items, which is required to solve puzzles, in a Western adventure fashion. The Japanese-style adventure element is notable in conversations with the characters, which follow the pattern of a dating simulation - your responses influence your relationship with characters. In dungeons there are also enemies to fight. The battles are strategic, resembling those of Fallout. You move your party through the room in a turn-based fashion; each move costs you AP. Once the enemy is within range, you can perform a variety of attacks and special techniques.

Within the halls of the Kamiyoshi School in Tokyo, a new exchange student dawdles in and begins his march towards matriculation. Before that fateful day however, his instinct for treasure leads him into the catacombs underneath the school where mysteries and monsters await.

Played in 3-D dungeon crawling style, adventurers spelunk and battle with the help of the H.A.N.T. (Hunter Assistant Network Tool) which makes gathering clues and reviewing evidence easily accessible. A large cast of characters culled from the student body and faculty provide ample information on the school's inner workings. The adventure portion of the game is viewed from a first-person perspective but an overhead map located on the upper-left corner of the screen shows current location and surrounding walls and structures.
