The show began its run on 8 February 1978 on BBC1, and was one of the longest-running programmes on British television when it ended its run on 15 September 2008. It was created by Phil Redmond, who is also responsible for the Channel 4 dramas Brookside and Hollyoaks; other notable production team members down the years have included producer Colin Cant and script editor Anthony Minghella.

Grange Hill was the longest running children's drama series, running a staggering 31 series over 30 years. Who doesn't remember dashing home from school to hear catchphrases such as "Flippin" Heck Tucker!?

Set in a comprehensive school, Grange Hill pulled no punches in serving up young audiences with tales of hi-jinks, bullying, playground fights and homework - whilst attracting a fair share of controversy at the time with its realistic portrayal of school life. The series also launched the career of Todd Carty, who starred in the Grange Hill spin off Tucker's Luck, and went onto popular roles in Eastenders and The Bill.

Available for the first time on DVD, this 5 disc set presents the first two series of Grange Hill. Series 1 includes the famous swimming lesson episode, the saga of Benny's football boots and the arrival of Michael Doyle, and Justin Bennett's fall at a disused warehouse. Then in series 2, relive Mr. Llewellyn taking over as headmaster, plus the foundation of the Student's Action Group which saw the legendary canteen demo and protests over school uniforms.
