In this absurdist road film, Rex sets out from the counterculture locale of Greenwich Village on a farcical journey. He encounters everything from radical conspiracies and political paranoia to sex, drugs, gurus, marriage and the New Age movement.
Early in their careers, actors Peter Coyote and Danny Glover appeared in this low budget item, a try-anything adaptation of Ronald Sukenick's experimental novel. In the 1960s, an existentialist revolutionary takes his personal credo to America's highways and byways, and he explores these open roads in the style of Jack Kerouac. He never stays anywhere for very long. As time passes into the 1970s and '80s, he is aghast at society's degeneration from idealistic communalism to greedy self-interest. But he also discovers that he is forever alienated from everything, good or bad.
