- The Hit List groups together 18 of Cliff Richard's most successful songs scattered across five decades (from the late '50s to the early '90s), and dedicates them to Canadian fans. Richard's popularity has always been abundant in Canada, a country who's musical tastes often imitate those of Britain's, so the songs on this compilation are a musical thank you to his numerous Canadian supporters. Most of the songs on this set are from between 1979 and 1989, his most prominent era on Canadian charts. The early hits, including "Move It" from 1958 and both "The Young Ones" and "Bachelor Boy" from 1962, are welcomed additions here since they capture his innocent, adolescent sound and are firm representations of his younger years. His '70s material on this album includes two of his biggest songs, the sultry, rock flavored "Devil Woman" from 1976 and the easy guitar tempo of "We Don't Talk Anymore" from 1979. "Living Doll," sung while Richard was with the Drifters, also makes an appearance here, as does some of his work with the Shadows in "Summer Holiday" and "Don't Talk to Him." A duet with Phil Everly as they perform the classic "All I Have to Is Dream" is one of the highlights of the album, as both of their softly curved voices are merged to create a beautiful '50s-sounding harmony. Richard's '80s offerings, including the pop innocence of "Dreamin," along with "A Little In Love" from 1981, are memorable radio hits and represent his overly successful attempt at mainstream rock & roll. Cliff Richard's legendary career has produced numerous hits collections and compilations, and while this set is far from complete, it offers up a favorable assortment of well known tracks.
