The 2008 four de France will be remembered as the year one Australian captured the prestigious yellow jersey for the first time.
All eyes were on the hopes and fortunes of Cadel Evans and whether he could improve on his rusner- up placing from a year earier
As the three week epie made its way from the eity of Brest in the western province of Brittany it became apparent Evans was well on track,
Supported by his Silence-Lotto tea, the task got tougher as the roads reached the unforgiving Pyrênées before titing skywards for the declaive trek into the French Alps, A record-equalling 10 Aussies started the three week epic to again underline Australia & influenee in worid eyeling.
The Tour also heralded the arrival of British sprinting sensation Mark Cavendish while the combination of team eSC Saxo Bank proved lethal, Led by Spanish veteran Carlos Sastre, the multi-national squad also included Stuart O'Grady.
National allegiances were put to one side as 'Grady's aim was to de-rail Evans in his quest to create a slice of Tour de
France history.
"Cadel on Tour 2008" is the SBS produced documentary on Australia's cycling hero, Cade Evans, and his 2008 Tour de France campaign.
We hear from those closest to him - his body guard, team-mates and wife, as well as his rivals and we witness the highs and the lows of the two-time Tour de France runner-up as he prepares and competes in the most gruelling sporting event in the world.
