A group of British Asian women take a day trip to Blackpool to see the illuminations. Among them is a battered wife and her son, an 18-year-old who is pregnant by her West Indian boyfriend, a middle-aged auntie' who indulges in Bollywood fantasies and a couple of flirty teenagers with "kiss me quick' on their mind.
Their stories are just some of the many explored in Mira Syal's witty and rumbustious comedy. Throw in a missing child, a fight, an onion bhaji and a gang of male strippers and you get a day out no one will forget. Grinder Chadha's debut film caused controversy on its release for tackling taboo subjects, but it is the simple comic values that endure.
