Living On the edge
Observe how animals
survive against the odds
in the world's most
inhospitable places.
You will be stunned when you see how animals
succeed in adapting to hostile climatic and
environmental conditions. The hillstar
hummingbird struggles to survive after dusk in
the Andes, as the temperature drops to minus
20 degrees Celsius, which is why it comes
within minutes of death, every night! Other
animals in the arctic often avoid freezing to
death with the help of 'antifreeze'. Did you
know that sperm whales can hunt two
kilometres below the sea's surface, without
taking a breath for more than an hour? Or that
some butterflies fly as far as 3,000 kilometres to
hibernate during the winter? Enjoy many more
exciting insights, captured in this fantastic new
collection!
Triumph of life
Follow the amazing
story of how life is
passed on through
each new generation.
How do you find a partner if you live in eternal
darkness or, like the whale, all on your own in
the ocean? Why does the Australian lyre bird
imitate other forest birds? Find out how
animals court, fight and use tricks in pursuit
of the vitally important goal of securing a mate
for the survival of their genes! For animals
everywhere, the continuation of the species
is paramount. The ways in which this can be
done seem almost infinite. Animals disguise
themselves, offer gifts or test their suitors. In
fact some of the most remarkable things that
animals do are connected with creating and
nurturing the next generation. See for yourself:
you'll find all the answers in this collection!
