A FANTASY OF MAN presents Henry Lawson's poetry

and prose of the period 1901-1922, and includes previ-

ously unpublished works. The compositions have been

meticulously researched and are printed in their origi-

nal published forms, together with the many illustra-

tions drawn by such famous artists of the day as Lionel

and Norman Lindsay, Frank Mahony and Percy Leason.

This is a companion volume to A Camp-Fire Yarn

which contains Lawson's works of the period 1885-1900.

The works are arranged for the first time both chrono-

logically and thematically (according to their year of

composition). Presented in this way his poetry and

prose blend together in an interesting, revealing and

eminently readable form, giving a new and remarkable

insight into the mind and the world of Henry Lawson.

In addition to all his published poetry, short stories and

sketches, the work includes newly-discovered manu-

scripts, "lost" stories, and previously undiscovered

compositions gleaned from the crumbling magazines

and newspapers of the time. The source is given at the

end of each composition.

The illustrations include a number of previously

unseen sketches of Lawson, excellent color repro-

ductions of the covers of the early editions of his

works, original manuscripts, period photographs of

Lawson and his environment, and the many line draw-

ings from the journals of the day. These combine to

subtly draw the reader into the fascinating world

Lawson created for his readers throughout Australia

and New Zealand,
