Norway & Finland

1. Norway is virtually unknown to train enthusiasts.

This is not entirely justified. Unknown, unloved, as they

say. Indeed, the Norwegians cannot boast any great train

history. For centuries Norway was one of the poorest

countries of Europe. Since the beginning of the seventies

oil and gas resources have been successfully exploited

and the country's prosperity has vastly increased. And this has not failed to have an

effect on the rail network.

2. Finland. Land of a thousand lakes. In this part

of the serial we follow the breathtaking track to

the south-east of Finland. A journey with great

variety, ending up with a visit to Finland's unique

opera festival.

India & sri land

India - This time the train leads us to one of the most densely

populated countries in the world. We are following its track

through the northwest of India. From the crowded, hot city of

Delhi the train runs through this ever so mysterious country.

All kinds of different trains take us to impressive temples

and through breathtaking landscapes.

Sri Lanka - No more than 50 kilometres below India lies Sri

Lanka. By train we travel through the exotic interior of this

island which is surrounded by the Indian Ocean. A journey

through Sri Lanka means encountering glistening beaches,

decorated elephants. Buddhist cloisters, tastr tea and

majestic ruins. Sri Lanka is a fairy-like region, sometimes

also called the tear of India.

New Zealand

New Zealand - This episode of Rail Away tracks through New Zealand by train on one

of the most famous railways in the world: The Tranz Alpine. It was here where more

than 1,000 years ago the Polynesian Maoris were the first to set foot.

England, Scotland, Ireland

USA - This journey goes through the west of the United States.

We are travelling straight across the Rocky Mountains by

train. High mountains, cowboys, breathtaking views and gold

mines. This will be the ingredients of our journey through

part of the state of Colorado,

Also we visit the United States railways. We travel; by train

along the West Coast of California. It runs out to be a

magnificent tour in which, of course, we'll visit Hollywood

and walk the Walk of Fame. Los Angeles, the city of ultra

modern skyscrapers, is also the city that has one of the

oldest, and especially shortest railways in the world.

Zimbabwe, Namibia, South Africa

Zimbabwe - Zimbabwe is the country where we begin a 1,600 kilometre train

tour, with its final destination in the southern neighbouring country South

Africa, the original home of our train. This is given the worthy name Pride

of Africa, It carries us past wilderness parks, wonders of the world, endless

landscapes and colonial cities. It will be a journey through an overwhelming

country, on board a train that every rail enthusiast dreams of.

Namibia - Nature rules here, with fierce canyons, rough coasts, endless

sand plains and a wealth of plants and animals. It's been dubbed

"the Diamond of Africa" because of the spectacular beauty of the country.

A diamond that had long been hidden, but that has now been discovered

by a growing number of tourists. We travel with them in a hotel on rails:

the Shongololo Express.

South Africa - Probably the most discussed country of the continent. Once

a pariah, now mother's darling. Never before has the world so quickly

changed its mind about a country. Since the disappearance of apartheid,

South Africa is strongly advancing on all fronts. Pulled by an old steam

locomotive, we travel through this country with its fabulous scenery.

Australia

Australia

- Rail Away goes Down Under and takes the train in

Australia. This immense continent has much to offer to its visitors.

Not only do we see some beautiful nature, we also travel in several

very special trains. During the four thousand mile journey we

make some beautiful excursions.

The trail leads us right through

mountains and deserts and offers the most extraordinary prospects.

It is the ultimate ride for train lovers. The Indian Pacific rides from

the east coast to the west coast. Our starting point is Sidney.

Germany

1. In this episode we visit former East Germany. This tour

brings us from Dresden to the capital Berlin and then via

the commercial city of Rostock to the isle of Rügen.

2. Germany: A country that has known both high and

low points in it's history. In contrast with the dark

blemish of the Second World War there has also been

the historic collapse of the Berlin Wall, marking the

end of the Cold War. Despite the destruction of the

war, the country has developed into one of the most

powerful economic nations in the world. With the

high-speed intercity trains of the Deutsche Bahn we

follow the track along the busy Rhine.

Denmark and Sweden

1. The World's Greatest Railway Journeys will

travel through Denmark, along the route of the

Vikings. We're travelling from Copenhagen, via

Odense, Arhus and Hobro, to Aalborg.

2. This time, the railway brings us to Northern

Europe. We travel by train to Denmark and

we cross the Baltic Sea to Sweden. It's going to

be a trip over wonderful railways, across vast

nature reserves and past lively cities.

Russia

1. We will be travelling through the north of

Russia with the White Nights Steam Express.

We will be making a 5500 kilometre tour

with St. Petersburg as both point of departure

and arrival.

2. This is part two of our train journey through

Russia. We will visit the cities of the Golden

Ring and Moscow. Firstly we're heading for

Arkhangelsk. At the end of this episode we'll

return to St. Petersburg, the city where we began

our train journey 5500 kilometres earlier.

USA

USA - Rail Away will take you to the Southwest of the United States, to the state of Arizona. We'll be

travelling through a vast and ancient landscape with the Grand Canyon as the indisputable climax.

Rail Away is travelling with Amtrak through Washington State on

the west coast of the United States. We travel from Olympia, by

way of Tacoma and Seattle, on our way to the San Juan Islands.
